Why your role matters

The Mark Wainwright Analytical Centre (MWAC) resides within the portfolio of the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research Infrastructure) in the UNSW Division of Research & Enterprise. MWAC comprises 25 core research-support units housing high-end research instrumentation and infrastructure used by researchers for the study of the structure and composition of biological, chemical & physical materials.

 MWAC’s research facilities are accessible to all staff and students of UNSW, as well as to external researchers, Government and industry users. MWAC staff provide research collaboration, technical support, education and training to researchers accessing the facilities.

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer MWAC, you will play a key role in providing high-level practical and efficient project support for project teams, core facilities and key stakeholders. This role will primarily support projects relating to laboratory administration and laboratory health & Safety matters.  Key responsibilities include providing project management, reporting and analytical support, developing communications, building key internal and external relationships, and developing/consulting on key programs and projects.

Who you are

You have a relevant tertiary qualification in biological or material science and or hands-on experience working in PC1 or PC2 laboratory environments within university or research settings, utilising high-end analytical instrumentation and adhering to laboratory health and safety protocols. 

The role requires excellent written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams across various levels of the organisation. Proficiency in using laboratory-based computer systems, such as ACLS, LabArchives, and health and safety management tools, is essential. Experience in creating web forms or using PowerApps is highly desirable.

You can also demonstrate your track record in project management, including developing plans, objectives, and documentation, as well as organisational and time management skills to manage multiple tasks, adapt to changing priorities, and meet tight deadlines.

The ability to work both independently and as part of a team, balancing competing demands with initiative and professionalism, commitment to UNSW’s aims, values, and policies, along with a strong understanding of health and safety responsibilities, is essential.
