The School of Private and Commercial Law is home to world-leading experts in the areas of law that govern our commercial dealings with and obligations to each other. In our teaching, research and policy-oriented work, we seek to engage critically with local and international laws. Why this role matters

We are seeking a Lecturer (Level B) or Senior Lecturer (Level C) in the School of Private and Commercial Law at the Faculty of Law & Justice UNSW. We welcome applications from scholars with research expertise and a capacity to teach in one or more of the following areas:

  • corporate and commercial law
  • civil and commercial dispute resolution.

Research and teaching staff are responsible for contributing to the School’s and the Faculty’s teaching programs, research, and engagement activities, and to carry out the duties expected of an academic at Lecturer or Senior Lecturer level, as appropriate.

Successful appointees will be expected to develop and maintain a strong program of individual research and to participate actively in the School’s and Faculty’s research culture, and to convene and teach courses in the Faculty’s LLB, JD and LLM programs.

The role reports to the Head of School, School of Private and Commercial Law and has no direct reports aside from casual Teaching Fellows.

 

Skills and Experience

For Level B:

Specific skills and experience required for this role include (but are not limited to): 

  • A PhD in Law or a related discipline (or equivalent).
  • Capacity for high-quality research publications and clear research plans.
  • Demonstrated capacity to teach effectively at tertiary level, including an ability and interest in developing and implementing innovative teaching methods.
  • Ability to teach core LLB/JD courses in corporate and commercial law and/or civil and commercial dispute resolution, as well as specialist electives or master's courses in these fields.
  • Evidence of highly developed interpersonal and organisational skills interpersonal and communication skills, and the capacity to work collaboratively and contribute to the School and Faculty level service and engagement activities.
  • Evidence of the capacity to support and inspire students from diverse backgrounds and support student equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives.

For Level C:

  • A PhD in Law or a related discipline (or equivalent).
  • A demonstrated track record of research, with evidence of publications of high quality and impact, and the capacity for research leadership.
  • Experience in successfully recruiting and/or supervising high calibre HDR students, and in chairing and/or participating in HDR confirmation and review panels.
  • Demonstrated capacity to teach effectively at tertiary level, including experience in developing and implementing innovative teaching methods.
  • Demonstrated experience in successfully teaching core LLB/JD courses in corporate and commercial law and/or civil and commercial dispute resolution, as well as specialist electives or master's courses in these fields.
  • Demonstrated experience in educational design, development and delivery at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level, including experience involving educational technologies and using online delivery methods.
  • Demonstrated success in initiating curriculum development and improvement.
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal, communication, relationship building and organisational skills and the capacity to work collaboratively and contribute to the School’s service and engagement activities.
  • Evidence of the capacity to support and inspire students from diverse backgrounds and support student equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives.
