Why Your Role Matters:

A Research Associate (Level A) is expected to contribute towards the research effort of UNSW and to develop their research expertise in the area of health equity, focusing on the intersection of culture and health among people from Indigenous and migrant backgrounds.

The role of Research Associate reports to Senior Research Associate, School of Population Health and has no direct reports.

 

Responsibilities:

Specific accountabilities for this role include:

  • Contribute independently or as a team member in collaborative research enhance the quality of research outcomes in health equity.
  • Conduct research (as per the norms of the discipline) and/or enable research teams to create scholarly output that is recognised by peers.
  • Undertake research under the Gaawaadhi Gadudha project under the guidance of the Chief Investigator and contribute to development of research activities.
  • Provide practical, efficient and culturally respectful support to Cultural Governance team and senior researchers.
  • Support the conceptualisation, design, and successful conduct of projects with health equity components, in the area of research expertise.
  • Contribute to the production of technical reports, manuscripts for publication and tenders or grants for external funding.
  • Monitor research protocols, provide problem solving and resolution to any evolving problems related to design, implementation and analysis with limited supervision.
  • Liaise with organisations, stakeholders and collaborators and actively participate in meetings and discussions as required.
  • Participate in and/or present at conferences and of workshops relevant to the project as required.
  • Coordinate, plan and complete day-to-day research activities within the framework of agreed project timelines and responsibilities.
  • Support with the development and management of marcomms strategy for Gaawaadhi Gadudha, including creating key elements to disseminate research findings.
  • Contribute to writing articles, book chapters, and other materials for publication in high-impact journals.

 

Who You Are:

  • A PhD in a related discipline, and/or relevant work experience.
  • Proven commitment to proactively keeping up to date with discipline knowledge and developments.
  • Demonstrated ability to undertake high quality academic research and conduct independent research with limited supervision.
  • Demonstrated track record of publications and conference presentations relative to opportunity.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships.
  • Evidence of highly developed interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and interact with a diverse range of stakeholders and students.
