The Opportunity

The Faculty of Engineering has a continuing (permanent) opportunity for a Senior Manager, Societal Impact and Partnerships. This role will be responsible for building relationships with a broad range of external and internal stakeholders, to enable the translation of faculty research and education to deliver societal impact both locally and in the broader region, including Timor-Leste and the Pacific.

In this role you will provide strategic support and guidance to internal stakeholders at both the Faculty and School levels. Externally, you'll seek opportunities to build relationships with national and international government agencies, regional development programs, social enterprises, local universities, and communities. Your aim is to increase the societal impact of the faculty’s research and education initiatives. Ultimately, you will strengthen existing relationships between academics and individuals within partner organisations and forge new, long-lasting partnerships to drive societal change.

This role reports to the Deputy Dean – Societal Impact and Translation (DDSI&T), UNSW Engineering, and currently has no direct reports.

• Salary, Level 9: $143,007 to $151,744 per annum + 17% superannuation

• Location: Kensington – Sydney, Australia
• On-site role
• This role will require domestic and international travel to visit our partners on a regular basis

Skills and Experience

• A relevant tertiary qualification and extensive relevant experience in societal impact and translational activities. This may or may not be in an educational context and might include experience working in partnerships and/or the social sector across the Asia-Pacific region.
• A commitment to high quality university engagement with partners, and an understanding of global best practice and associated engagement models.
• High level interpersonal and verbal communications skills, with demonstrated ability to build effective relationships with a broad range of partners.
• Demonstrated ability to work in cross-cultural and multisector professional context.
• Direct experience with partnerships and government stakeholders, including an established network of contacts across government, industry and civil society, with a focus on the Asia Pacific region.
• Demonstrated ability to work autonomously to develop and implement operational plans and budgets, with extensive project management experience and the ability to achieve objectives and report on outcomes.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and productively within a team, but also to take initiative and work independently while managing competing demands.
• Ability to grow and develop according to the needs of this emerging portfolio.
• High level written communication skills, with demonstrated ability to interpret and communicate complex information, and to develop and deliver external relations materials with successful results.
• Sound stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence senior management and liaise effectively with a range of stakeholders to ensure successful outcomes.
• Excellent time management skills, with a demonstrated ability to respond to changing priorities, manage multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines by using judgement and initiative.
• Ability and capacity to implement required UNSW health and safety policies and procedures.
• Align with and actively demonstrate the UNSW Values in Action: Our Behaviours  and the UNSW Code of Conduct.
