Why Your Role Matters
UNSW Canberra Space is located within the School of Engineering and Technology. The Director will enhance and increase the UNSW Canberra Space capability for research and Higher Degree Research supervision and will also contribute to UNSW Canberra’s space education programs through course development delivery (including short courses). The position will play a key role in delivering space education to Defence space personnel.
Who You Are (skills and experience):
- A PhD in space engineering or related discipline that complements the breadth of expertise of the School. Or, for Professor of Practice advanced qualifications and/or recognised significant experience in the relevant discipline area/industrial experience. Relevant areas encompass ground, space, and user segments, including spacecraft/payload design and integration; mission design and operations; Earth observation; space domain awareness sensors and mission systems; autonomous/int; autonomous/intelligent satellite constellations; satellite communications; and precision navigation and timing.
- A proven record in senior management with demonstrated experience providing effective strategic leadership in education and research, fostering innovation and leading change management.
- A record of successful engagement at a senior level with government, Defence, and industry to develop long term collaborative research partnerships and translate research into tangible commercial benefits including policy impacts.
- Well-established and sustained record of exemplary professional practice and leadership within a relevant community which extends to a strong network in the Australian space community.
- Demonstrated commitment to strong collegial leadership, engagement, and a capacity to build and maintain effective collaborative partnerships within an academic environment and within and external to the Institute.
- High level interpersonal, leadership, management and negotiations skills, with demonstrated ability to liaise and communicate effectively with academics, members of the community, government, Defence, professional and industry bodies
