The University of New South Wales (UNSW) is inviting expressions of interest for the position of Deputy Faculty Executive Director (DFED), a key leadership position based in Canberra. Working with the FED the role will support and contribute to the strategic and operational management of the Faculty of UNSW Canberra including its staff and activities operating at the Australian Defence Force Academy, the University’s Canberra City site and the Launch site on Northbourne Avenue.
Why Your Role Matters:
The Deputy Faculty Executive Director (DFED) is a key leadership role within the Faculty's Executive team, responsible for assisting the Faculty Executive Director (FED) in managing and overseeing plans and processes to deliver operational services. This role ensures the Faculty meets its academic, research, teaching, and learning outcomes by championing and leading key strategic projects and initiatives. The DFED has direct reports in areas such as Human Resources, Finance, Estate, Security and Safety, Governance and Quality Assurance, IT services, and Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion with School Managers having a dotted reporting line to the DFED. Additionally, the DFED collaborates with Faculty peers, including Heads of School and Deputy/Associate Deans, as well as UNSW peers, across multiple locations in Canberra and Sydney.
Responsibilities:
Key responsibilities of the Deputy Faculty Executive Director (DFED) include:
- Deliver the operations of the ADFA College within the Terms and Conditions of the University Defence Contract.
- Working with UNSW Canberra leaders to ensure the Faculty meets its financial targets and manages both annual and long-term operations effectively.
- Collaboration with Faculty Leaders to deliver the Faculty's strategic plan, implement key actions, and provide strategic advice on emerging issues.
- Providing support to the FED in championing University and Faculty initiatives, and activities, within the Faculty.
- Leading the delivery of high-quality operational support across the Faculty.

Who You Are (skills and experience):
Our ideal candidate will have:
- Demonstrated stakeholder management skills in a complex environment, with the ability to build collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Proven commercial acumen with a track record in setting and managing large-scale budgets, meeting financial targets, and ensuring financial sustainability.
- Extensive experience in people leadership, development, engagement, and management, with the ability to create a positive workplace culture and deliver high-quality outcomes.
- Strong strategic planning and implementation skills, with experience in supporting the delivery of strategic plans, implementing key actions, and providing strategic advice on operational needs and future requirements.
- Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion, with demonstrated cultural sensitivity and the ability to work effectively with diverse colleagues, partners, and stakeholders.
