Why your Role Matters:

The Specialist Platform Operations is responsible for implementing, managing, and maintaining the hybrid cloud platforms, ensuring that in-house developers can effectively use the platform's features and services. They will work closely with the Cloud Architect, Cloud Platform Engineering Teams, Developers, and other members of the engineering team to build and optimise the platform's cloud-based and on-premises infrastructure as the organisation transitions from transaction-based, on-prem infrastructure delivery to a hybrid product-centric model. The Specialist Platform Operations plays a key role in building and maintaining reliable, secure, and scalable infrastructure, ensuring that in-house developers and customers can use the platform efficiently and effectively.

The role reports to the Team Leader, Platform Operations. 

Who We Are Looking For:

The role is ideally suited to someone with strong IT operations experience, able to work in a demanding environment and willing to continually develop their skills and knowledge.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Cloud Architect, customers, and engineering teams to understand user needs, platform objectives, and overall service strategy.
  • Implement and manage the hybrid cloud infrastructure that supports the platform, using best practices in cloud computing, networking, storage, and security.
  • Configure, deploy, and maintain hybrid cloud resources and services, ensuring that the platform remains reliable, secure, and scalable. 
  • Monitor and optimise the performance, availability, and cost efficiency of the platform's cloud infrastructure, identifying and addressing any issues or bottlenecks.
  • Engage and collaborate with internal stakeholders to identify opportunities to implement automation, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure-as-code solutions, streamlining the deployment and management of cloud resources. 
  • Ensure that the platform's cloud infrastructure adheres to established governance policies, security requirements, and compliance standards. 
  • Maintain strong knowledge of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in cloud engineering and infrastructure management, ensuring that the platform remains competitive and delivers an exceptional user experience. 
  • Support the implementation and management of hybrid cloud infrastructure that supports the platform, using best practices in cloud computing, networking, storage, and security. 
  • Support the optimisation of Cloud infrastructure via managing activity related to cost analysis, migration, troubleshooting, development and providers to support all Cloud based infrastructure solutions. 
  • Provide advice and guidance to the business to promote operational effectiveness and continuous improvement initiatives relating to Cloud operations.

Skills and Experience

  • Tertiary qualification in Computer Technology (or equivalent), supplemented with demonstrated success in an IT environment and managing multiple complex projects in a large and diverse organisation and subsequent relevant experience. 
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code (IaC) tools (e.g. Terraform, CloudFormation).
  • Proficiency in scripting and/or programming languages (e.g., Python, Bash, PowerShell).
  • Strong understanding of networking, security, and storage principles.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and tools (e.g. Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions).
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and collaboration skills.
  • Knowledge and experience in Virtual and cloud platforms and services (e.g. VMWare, AWS, Azure, VPC).
  • Knowledge of containerisation and orchestration technologies (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Knowledge of monitoring, logging, and alerting tools (e.g. Prometheus, Data Dog, ELK stack, CloudWatch).
