Why Your Role Matters:


The Manager, Academic Programs is an important leadership role in the UNSW Business School Education Portfolio, responsible for the pro-active and operational management, governance, review and development of academic offerings at the UNSW Business School within UNSW governance and quality frameworks. This includes program renewal, transition to a sustainable curriculum delivery model following major program renewals managing BAU of selected Business School-wide elements of programs.

The role works alongside the Senior Deputy Dean (Education and Student Experience) and Associate Deans Undergraduate and Postgraduate Programs and collaborates with key stakeholders across the Business School and the university.

The Manager Academic Programs leads the academic programs professional staff team to foster a culture of service orientation and collaboration to enable the development and delivery of a signature student experience at scale, quality improvements and effective governance. The academic programs team collaborates closely with all other teams in the Education Portfolio and schools/centres to collectively achieve faculty and university strategic and operational goals.

  • Lead, motivate and develop a high-performing team, fostering a culture of quality customer service and collaboration, and ensuring goals and career development plans are in place. This includes ensuring the quality and timeliness of completed work and service provided to schools, onboarding of new staff, staff development, streamlining and documenting of key processes
  • Provide expert advice and support on program compliance, continuous improvement and quality assurance to Associate Deans and Program Directors and other key stakeholders.
  • Work with the colleagues, and Associate Deans Undergraduate/Postgraduate Programs to support academic program reviews (APRs), including timely scheduling, establishing review panels and composing terms of reference for reviews. Collect background data and information, prepare draft review reports and monitor implementation of review outcomes, to ensure the Faculty is delivering quality educational offerings to students.
  • Provide significant input into the development of new courses and programs in the Faculty and facilitate their approval workflow through the university governance processes and systems. Ensure that the Academic Programs team works closely with the Schools and the Project Officer Academic Quality to carry out timely quality assurance checks for course proposals in the UNSW curriculum management system prior to their submission to Education Committee / Faculty Board for approval.
  • Apply UNSW policies and procedures around academic quality and integrity to ensure the Business School’s processes are aligned and efficient and deliver educational excellence across our programs.
  • Manage and coordinate the workflows of the programs team to ensure operational and educational support for the development and delivery of the faculty’s flagship undergraduate and postgraduate programs, including the myBCom/myMCom platform and other key curriculum elements as required.

  • A relevant degree with a depth of subsequent relevant experience to consolidate and extend the theories and principles learned; or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through any other combination of education, training and/or experience.
  • Demonstrable experience in leading and mentoring a high performing team in highly complex, multi-layered organisational environments.
  • Proven ability to understand and interpret complex rules and regulations, policies and procedures and provide written and verbal advice on such to internal and external clients in a clear, concise, accurate and logical way.
  • Proven skills in problem-solving and improving processes and procedures, with motivation to apply this to a range of areas.
  • Demonstrated experience in effectively preparing project and process documentation, reports and committee papers, and advanced competency in the use of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong service orientation with excellent interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated success in building and maintaining positive professional relationships with staff at all levels, both internally and externally.
  • Excellent organisation, time management and project coordination skills, with a demonstrated ability to respond to changing priorities, managing multiple tasks, and meeting competing deadlines by using judgement and initiative.
