Why Your Role Matters
The Academic Learning Facilitator (STEM) is part of the Student Learning Team within the PVCE portfolio, responsible for teaching UNSW enabling programs—especially the University Preparation Program—and providing STEM-focused academic support. The role aims to boost student participation and success by promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion aligned with UNSW’s Strategy: Progress For All. Working closely with the Program Director and Head of Student Learning, the Facilitator delivers teaching, academic skills support, advice, and may coordinate courses. They collaborate with UNSW academic staff to ensure a positive student learning experience. The role reports to the Lead, Learning Hub, with a dotted line to the Program Director, and has no direct reports.
Main responsibilities Summary
- Teach enabling programs and coordinate Math courses preparing students for UNSW first-year Math.
- Provide academic support via consultations, workshops, and university events using educational technology.
- Foster innovation and continuous improvement in enabling education.
- Build partnerships across UNSW to support diverse student needs.
- Help design and improve accessible STEM education programs and resources.
- Manage academic development projects and digital learning integration.
- Collaborate with faculties to address learning needs and support academic facilitation.
- Develop policies and training materials for enabling STEM education.
- Promote digital delivery and provide responsive support to students and staff.
Who You Are
We are looking for someone who is aligned with UNSW’s vision and values and comes with:
- Relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience in educational programs and initiatives
- Experience supporting students from diverse equity backgrounds and understanding of accessibility issues in higher education
- Skilled in curriculum design, assessment, and teaching approaches that support academic development
- Proficient in using educational technologies and learning management systems; able to drive innovation in learning resources
- Experienced in online learning and teaching environments
- Strong collaboration skills across different levels within higher education
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a student-focused, service-oriented approach
- Able to work independently and as part of a team, with initiative, sound judgement, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines
