The Opportunity
The Entrepreneur in Residence - TRaCE (EIR) will play a critical role in supporting the creation, growth and commercial success of spinout companies from UNSW participating in the Trailblazer for Recycling and Clean Energy (TRaCE) Program. As part of the New Ventures Team, and working closely with TRaCE leadership, the EIR will play an integral role in a select number of new spinout companies and setting them up for success.
The EIR will develop business plans, funding strategies, customer and partner outreach initiatives, and forming strong leadership teams.
This role is ideal for an experienced entrepreneur with a track record of successfully founding, scaling, and raising funds for innovative ventures.
This role reports to the Senior New Ventures Manager, with a dotted line to the Director of TRaCE and will have no direct reports.
About the TRaCE Program and the New Venture Team
The Trailblazer for Recycling and Clean Energy (TRaCE) Program is a partnership between the University of Newcastle and UNSW, established by the Australian Department of Education to advance Australia’s potential as a clean energy leader. Building new research capabilities and driving commercialisation in priority areas, TRaCE directly supports Australia’s Modern Manufacturing Strategy.
The New Ventures Team accelerates the formation and growth of UNSW spinout companies, actively managing and supporting the University’s growing venture portfolio. Aligned with the UNSW Strategic Plan, Progress for All, this work drives research translation and societal impact as a key University priority.

Who you are
You have a relevant tertiary qualification and/or expertise gained through education and/or industry experience with a demonstrated track record of founding and leading early-stage startups, particularly in deep tech, the circular economy, or clean energy.
You excel at developing business strategies, securing funding, and driving customer engagement for early-stage ventures and have demonstrated success in assembling and managing diverse teams, including the recruitment of co-founders or executives. Familiarity with university research settings, IP management, and the complexities of academic and deep tech is also a requirement.
You maintain strong networks within the venture capital, corporate, and innovation ecosystems and bring experience in corporate governance, ideally gained through active board membership. You also possess a deep understanding of sustainability, encompassing green energy, recycling, and environmental protection.
