  • Location: Kensington, NSW (on-campus attendance is required, with some flexibility negotiable for the right candidate)

Why This Role Matters:

The UNSW Cities Institute is committed to bringing a First Nations perspective to all work and initiatives and to develop strategies to embed a First Nation voice in city decision making. The role supports the Cities Institute First Nations Lead and entails providing project management, reporting and analytical support, developing communications, building key internal and external relationships, and developing/ consulting on key programs and projects. The role reports to the Director UNSW Cities Institute and has no direct reports.

Accountabilities:

  • Develop and monitor the delivery of the UNSW Cities Institute projects and initiatives to achieve operational and strategic goals.
  • Oversee the development of project plans and schedules and participate in planning processes as required.
  • Monitor, track and report on the status of project deliverables to ensure time, cost and quality metrics are in line with approved project plans for assigned projects.
  • Provide a high level of proactive project support to project team and stakeholders.
  • Assess and manage project risks and issues and provide solutions where applicable.
  • Develop and manage effective communications with key stakeholders, both internal and external to the project.
  • Coordinate adherence to UNSW governance pathways to ensure projects are managed within a defined, consistent and proven set of rules for project development.
  • Support the First Nations Lead, the Cities Institute Director and Manager of Strategy to oversee and manage the delivery of Cities Institute projects and initiatives to achieve operational and strategic goals, with a particular focus on the development of an Indigenous perspective within the Centre and subsequent strategies to embed a First Nations voice in decision making.
  • Work with the First Nations Professor of Practice to foster collaborations and engagement with the Cities Institute.
  • Where required advise, review research projects and grant and funding applications.
  • Advise and inform the Director of the Cities Institute of critical issues and developments which affect communities and work with the Cities Institute team on strategies to overcome these issues.


Skills and Experience:

To be considered you will hold Australian Working Rights or Australian Citizenship. Visa sponsorship is not available for this appointment.

  • Relevant tertiary qualification with subsequent relevant experience or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education, training and experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a high level of attention to detail for deliverables produced.
  • Demonstrated success working effectively and collaboratively on initiatives with a range of people at different levels within an organisation.
  • Experience working with a range of computer systems and applications, including Microsoft Office, knowledge of graphics programs is desirable.
  • Excellent time management skills, with a demonstrated ability to respond to changing priorities, manage multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines by using judgement and initiative.
  • Proven project experience, with an understanding of the project life cycle and development of project plans, objectives and documentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and productively within a team, but also to take initiative and work independently while managing competing demands.
