The School of Private and Commercial Law is home to world-leading experts in the areas of law that govern our commercial dealings with and obligations to each other. In our teaching, research and policy-oriented work, we seek to engage critically with local and international laws. UNSW’s Education Focussed roles (EF) enable academics to specialise in education and devote their time to delivering high-quality teaching and pursuing initiatives to enhance the educational experience of our students. Those who are appointed to this prestigious specialism will be expected to successfully drive educational excellence within the university’s teaching and learning communities. Successful appointees will be expected to convene and teach courses in the Faculty’s LLB, JD and LLM programs.

We are seeking a Lecturer (Level B) or Senior Lecturer (Level C) – Education focused in the School of Private and Commercial Law at the Faculty of Law & Justice UNSW.

We welcome applications from academics with a capacity to teach in one or more of the following areas:

  • corporate and commercial law
  • civil and commercial dispute resolution.

The role reports to the Head of School, School of Private and Commercial Law and has no direct reports aside from casual Teaching Fellows. 

 

Skills and Experience

For Level B:

Specific skills and experience required for this role include (but are not limited to): 

  • A PhD in Law or a related discipline (or equivalent), and/or relevant work experience (e.g. legal practice).
  • Actively stays up to date with discipline knowledge and professional development.
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching and learning design, development and delivery at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
  • Ability to teach core courses in corporate and commercial law and/or civil and commercial dispute resolution, as well as specialist electives or master’s courses in these fields.
  • Experience using and/or designing with educational technologies and online delivery methods.
  • Evidence of teaching effectiveness and passion for educational excellence (e.g. relevant discipline-based curriculum design and development at a variety of levels and scales).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of industry or experience of work-integrated learning (desirable).
  • Evidence of highly developed interpersonal and organisational skills.
  • Evidence of ability to support and inspire students from diverse backgrounds and support student equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives.

For Level C:

  • A PhD in a related discipline, and/or relevant work experience.
  • Actively stays up to date with discipline knowledge and development.
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching and learning design using a range of pedagogical approaches, development and delivery of courses and programs, at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
  • Demonstrated experience in successfully teaching core LLB/JD courses in corporate and commercial law and/or civil and commercial dispute resolution, as well as specialist electives or master's courses in these fields.
  • Experience of implementing educational technologies and online delivery methods.
  • Evidence of teaching effectiveness and passion for educational excellence and fostering this in others.
  • Demonstrated experience with industry or work-integrated learning.
  • Evidence of professional development of teaching practice in self and others with the ability to advance and lead an inclusive culture of excellence in learning and teaching.
  • Demonstrated success in initiating curriculum development and improvement.
  • Evidence of highly developed interpersonal and organisational skills.
  • Evidence of ability to support and inspire students from diverse backgrounds and support student equity diversity and inclusion initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with the profession and industry and attract funding for learning and teaching initiatives.
