The UNSW Data Governance Office is a one-stop-shop providing guidance and support for members of the University community to fulfil their data governance responsibilities. The Data Governance Officer is responsible for supporting the Data & Information Governance Manager in delivering this guidance and support. The Data Governance Officer reports to the Data & Information Governance Manager and has no direct reports.
Accountabilities:
- Implement appropriate processes and practices related to data governance including policies, procedures, guidelines and controls such as data loss prevention (DLP).
- Partner with business associates and key stakeholders to raise awareness of data governance policies, practices and guidelines applicable at the University.
- Provide support in respect of data sharing approvals and related compliance.
- Partner with both business and technical associates to collaborate across working teams to monitor, track, address and prevent data loss.
- Develop, maintain, and manage relationships and communications with technical and non-technical stakeholders, meet challenges with confidence, and deal with frequently conflicting and/or competing objectives and drivers of stakeholders.
- Align with and actively demonstrate the UNSW Values in Action: Our Behaviours and the UNSW Code of Conduct.
- Cooperate with all health and safety policies and procedures of the University and take all reasonable care to ensure that your actions or omissions do not impact on the health and safety of yourself or others.
Skills and Experience:
- Relevant tertiary qualification with subsequent relevant experience or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education, training, and experience.
- Proficiency and/or experience in raising stakeholder awareness, building organisational capability and implementing data governance policies, procedures, guidelines and controls.
- Experience in developing, facilitating and monitoring Data Sharing Approvals.
- Experience in implementing Data Loss Prevention controls.
- Experience in implementing data management and/or data risk management in a large organization.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills with a demonstrated ability to manage and respond to changing priorities and deadlines, manage multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines by using judgement and initiative.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, facilitation and interpersonal skills, with the ability to clearly convey ideas and information in a professional manner to different audiences and stakeholders at all levels
- Demonstrated ability to work in a highly adaptable and consultative manner, work collaboratively and productively within a team, but also to function effectively and independently with the capacity to take responsibility, exercise judgement and proactively address and resolve problems as they arise.
- Demonstrated ability to handle high demand situations with management and key stakeholders, work effectively with and deal with conflicting requirements of a range of stakeholders, and negotiate and influence as a means of obtaining desired outcomes.
- An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives, and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines
- Knowledge of health and safety (psychosocial and physical) responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
