The UNSW Division of Societal Impact, Equity and Engagement (DSIEE) leads UNSW’s efforts to make a positive and lasting impact on society, promoting equity and social justice, and driving engagement activities which enhance UNSW’s reputation as a key contributor to society through its research, teaching, and community engagement.

The Senior Diversity & Inclusion Officer manages the development and implementation a range of diversity and inclusion initiatives to support a diverse and inclusive student and staff culture at UNSW. The role is focussed on student and staff initiatives that support gender equity, disability inclusion and accessibility, campus and workplace culture, LGBTQIA+ recognition and support, cultural diversity and anti-racism, and workplace flexibility.

The position is only approved for 12 months at this stage and will be focusing on (but not limited to) some of the following key initiatives: progressing actions and reporting outcomes identified as part of the UNSW Gender Equity Strategy, drafting an action plan for the Athena Swan accreditation, working on our submission for the Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA) report, delivering on the actions associated with our Australian Workplace Equality Index (AWEI) status.

The Senior Diversity & Inclusion Officer reports to the Strategy and Reporting Manager and has no direct reports.

Main overall responsibilities Summary

  • Manage diversity and inclusion initiatives and projects ensuring alignment to relevant university and divisional strategies and action plans, and clear objectives, timelines, deliverables, and resource allocation
  • Contribute to the development, implementation, and evaluation of diversity and inclusion initiatives and projects, enabling internal and external reporting and benchmarking requirements
  • Support effective engagement in key diversity and inclusion strategic priorities associated programs of work through acting drafting communications, liaising with stakeholders, contributing to and coordinating working groups
  • Provide up to date and informed advice, reporting, benchmarking and comparative analyses of best practice approaches to inform strategic priorities, recommendations for action and communicate progress
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of diversity and inclusion training, relevant policy and procedure reviews, and stakeholder consultation practices
  • Build collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders and staff to enable productive partnership across the diversity and inclusion work area

Who You Are

We are looking for someone who is aligned with UNSW’s vision and values, who is highly energised by building relationships, with excellent interpersonal, influencing and communication skills. We’d love you to come equipped with:

  • Demonstrated experience developing and working on Diversity & Inclusion strategies and programs, ideally in a large, complex organisation. Previous experience working on submissions of awards, reporting and accreditations in the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion space is essential
  • Demonstrated project management experience is essential
  • Demonstrated ability to write reports and submissions
  • Demonstrated experience presenting at all levels, with the ability to build key relationships, influence outcomes, and work positively with people from a diversity of backgrounds, both from within and outside the university community
  • Demonstrated data analysis skills with the ability to interpret data and make informed decisions and experience in the preparation of reports to internal stakeholders (including senior management) and external agencies

Working hours are Monday to Friday, business hours and is based in Sydney - Kensington Campus. The team works on a hybrid basis (however this role cannot be done fully remotely).
