• Employment Type: Full time - 2 years fixed term
• Remuneration: Level B from $123,620 base annual salary + 17% Superannuation
• Location: Kensington, NSW (with the option of hybrid working arrangements)

Why the Role Matters

As a Senior Research Associate  you will be based at the Kaldor Centre for International Refugee Law at UNSW Sydney and will contribute to team research in the field of international refugee law and forced migration and will lead the Kaldor Centre’s research project on meaningful participation of refugees and other displaced people in decision-making processes.

This role of Senior Research Associate reports to the Head of School and has no direct reports.

Accountabilities

Specific accountabilities for this role include (but are not limited to):

• Lead the Kaldor Centre’s research project on meaningful participation of refugees in decision making processes, conducting research under limited supervision, either independently or as a member of a team (as per the norms of the discipline).
• Engage with external stakeholders, including refugee-led organisations, civil society and policymakers, to inform law reform efforts in relation to meaningful refugee participation.
• Create scholarly impact in the discipline which is recognised by peers in the advancement of disciplinary knowledge.
• Contribute to the development of applications for competitive funding under the guidance of senior colleagues.
• Mentor and guide students and colleagues and develop the next generation of academics through involvement in supervision of HDRs (as per the norms of the discipline) 

Skills and Experience

Skills and experience required for this position include (but limited to):

• A PhD in a related discipline, and/or relevant work experience.
• Proven commitment to proactively keeping up to date with discipline knowledge and developments.
• Demonstrated track record in research relating to meaningful refugee participation with outcomes of high quality and high impact with clear evidence of the desire and ability to continually achieve research excellence as well as the capacity for research leadership.
• A track record of significant involvement with refugee-led organisations, civil society organisations and policymakers.
• High level communication skills and ability to network effectively and interact with a diverse range of students and staff.
