Why your Role Matters:
The Specialist Platform Operations is responsible for implementing, managing, and maintaining UNSW’s hybrid cloud environment to support in-house developers. The role collaborates with Cloud Architects, Platform Engineering Teams, Developers, and other stakeholders to optimise cloud-based and on-premises infrastructure during the transition to a hybrid, product-centric model. It ensures the platform is reliable, secure, and scalable, enabling efficient use by developers and customers. The role reports to the Team Leader, Platform Operations.
Who We Are Looking For:
The role is ideally suited to someone with 2 or more years of hands-on experience in AWS or Azure environments, with a good understanding of CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code, Cloud Service Configurations, monitoring and able to work in a demanding operational environment. You will be able to demonstrate your ability to fault find problems and articulate your experience bringing value to the business.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with Cloud Architects, customers, and engineering teams to configure and optimise cloud services, ensuring appropriate access, cost efficiency, and compliance.
- Implement, manage, and monitor hybrid cloud infrastructure using best practices in cloud computing, networking, storage, and security.
- Deploy and maintain resources through infrastructure as code, ensuring reliability, scalability, and security.
- Optimise performance, availability, and cost efficiency while identifying and addressing issues or bottlenecks.
- Drive automation to streamline deployment and management of cloud resources in collaboration with internal stakeholders.
- Ensure adherence to governance policies, security requirements, and compliance standards.
- Stay informed on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in cloud engineering.
- Provide guidance to the business on cloud operations to enhance operational effectiveness and support continuous improvement initiatives.
Skills and Experience
- Tertiary qualification in Computer Technology (or equivalent) with proven success managing complex IT projects in large organisations.
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code (IaC) tools like Terraform and CloudFormation.
- Proficiency in scripting and programming languages, such as Python, Bash, and PowerShell.
- Strong understanding of networking, security, storage, and virtual/cloud platforms (e.g., VMWare, AWS, Azure, VPC).
- Familiarity with CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions) and containerisation/orchestration technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
- Knowledge of monitoring, logging, and alerting tools (e.g., Prometheus, DataDog, ELK stack, CloudWatch).
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, communication, and collaboration skills.
