Why Your Role Matters:

Kingsford Legal Centre (KLC) is a community legal centre providing free legal advice and assistance to people who live, work or study in the Randwick and Botany Bay local government areas in NSW. Our team of Solicitors/Clinical Supervisors provide advice on a wide variety of matters.

The Senior Solicitor/Clinical Supervisor position at KLC offers a unique blend of leadership, mentorship, and hands-on legal practice. In this role, you will oversee advice, casework, and community legal education, while providing day-to-day supervision to a team of dedicated lawyers. Working closely with the Principal Solicitor, you will ensure the effective running of the legal practice, delivering high-quality legal services to KLC clients in line with funding and risk management requirements.

This leadership role involves managing and developing a team of lawyers, focusing on client service, process development, and collaboration. You will conduct complex casework and support solicitors handling demanding client work across various legal areas, including general civil law, employment law, discrimination and sexual harassment law, and a health justice partnership. Additionally, you will manage advice nights, attend community outreaches, and conduct community legal education, while teaching UNSW Law & Justice students in a best practice clinical legal education model.

The role of Senior Solicitor/Clinical Supervisor reports to the Director/ Deputy Director of KLC and has direct legal supervision reports. Join us to advance your career and contribute to the professional growth of future legal leaders.



Accountabilities

Specific accountabilities for this role include:

  • Lead and support a team of lawyers within Kingsford Legal Centre and work collaboratively with other Centre staff to drive the Centre’s strategic work.
  • Provide legal supervision to a team of lawyers in accordance with the Centre’s risk management policies under the direction of the Principal Solicitor.
  • Conduct strategic and complex advice and casework across the Centre’s work and provide high-level supervision to lawyers undertaking this work.
  • Assist with the management of the day-to-day operation of the Centre’s legal service, including around the effective utilisation of the Centres’ electronic case management system as delegated.
  • Supervise evening advice sessions, as required.
  • Contribute to the development of funding and strategic relationships and work collaboratively to secure new opportunities which align with the Centre’s needs and goals.
  • Proactively develop and deliver community legal education and law reform projects.
  • In conjunction with the team, collaborate and develop innovative opportunities for student learning in the Centre and continuous process improvement to the day-to-day work.
  • Represent the Centre to high level stakeholders, and ensure relationships are built and maintained to ensure the success of the Centre’s goals and objectives.
  • Identify service gaps and respond to new and emerging legal issues for our community in innovative ways.
  • Identify and implement Access and Equity strategies in respect of the Centre’s students and clients.

 

Skills and Experience

To be considered you will hold Australian Working Rights or Australian Citizenship. Visa sponsorship will not be available for this role.

  • Eligible to practise as a solicitor New South Wales on an unrestricted practising certificate.
  • Extensive skills and experience as a supervising solicitor, including strong knowledge of risk

management requirements and managing vicarious trauma.

  • Extensive experience managing and supervising staff, volunteers and students in a community

legal centre environment or legal assistance environment and a knowledge of funding

requirements.

  • Demonstrated ability to supervise a generalist legal practice and extensive experience providing

legal advice within a trauma-informed model, to clients with complex needs.

  • Strong experience in complex advice and casework including experience undertaking litigation in

areas relevant to KLC’s practice.

  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, with the ability to develop strong

relationships with stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated initiative with excellent analytical and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Proven experience to manage multiple projects, experience working in complex funding

environments, a knowledge of electronic case management systems and an ability to drive

innovation in relation to responding to legal need.
