Why your role matters
We're looking for a dynamic Senior Product Owner (Recognition of Prior Learning) to drive the development and continuous improvement of UNSW’s enterprise student systems. In this key role, you’ll lead strategies and initiatives that align with the university’s priorities, ensuring the delivery of high-quality student services that meet the evolving needs of both internal and external stakeholders.
Working closely with the business and project teams, you’ll shape and prioritise the backlog of work, ensuring every output delivers real value. You’ll also produce clear documentation to support effective planning and progress tracking.
Your ability to build strong relationships will be essential as you engage regularly with stakeholders to gather feedback, share project updates, and make sure our work remains aligned with business needs. As a leader of change, you’ll play a critical role in embedding new ways of working across teams and overseeing smooth implementation.
Reporting to the Head of Admissions and Scholarships, this role offers the opportunity to make a lasting impact.
Additional accountabilities include:
- Oversee and manage the delivery and prioritisation of work ensuring the project is meeting business objectives and delivering value.
- Define requirements and ensure they are sufficiently detailed (for example contain user stories, value, success criteria, effort) and are being actioned in the appropriate priority by the delivery team and/ vendor.
- Be responsible and accountable for making decisions on the overall backlog priorities based on analysis, theoretical reasoning, scope, time and budget.
- Lead the definition of new processes and policies, while taking into consideration advice and recommendations from key stakeholders and project resources.
- Experience in Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) assessment, familiarity with RPL policies and procedures is essential to be successful in this role.
About You:
- Relevant tertiary qualification with subsequent relevant experience or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education, training and experience.
- Demonstrated experience in leading data driven process improvements involving people, process and technology.
- Advanced written and verbal communication skills, with a high level of attention to detail and the ability to engage and negotiate with a wide range of stakeholders.
- Proven ability to manage and respond to conflicting stakeholder needs in a diplomatic manner, including a capacity to negotiate and influence decisions.
- Capacity to provide creative and innovative solutions to problems, analyse and improve processes, and implement quality assurance frameworks to deliver continuous improvement.
- Demonstrated ability delivering a product and or system roadmap.
- Proven capacity to implement and lead change in a complex work environment.
- Proven collaborative and team-oriented approach, with ability to quickly establish and maintain a high level of personal and professional credibility at a senior management level and with the wider team.
- Demonstrated skills and experience in strategic policy analysis, research, development and evaluation.
