Why Your Role Matters:
The Senior Project Officer will support the development of a comprehensive integrated national surveillance system, including biological, behavioural and health service data for people who inject drugs. They will assist with the implementation and dissemination of the Australian Needle Syringe Program Survey (ANSPS) and the Needle Syringe Program National Minimum Data Collection (NSP NMDC) project outputs.
The Senior Project Officer will head the Viral Hepatitis Epidemiology and Prevention Program (VHEPP) assisting with the coordination of research protocol development, data sharing agreements, ethics committee approval, data collection and writing reports and publications. The position will involve consultation and liaison with the NSP sector, public health professionals, data custodians, researchers and affected communities, as well as interaction with other Kirby Institute programs.
The Senior Project Officer reports to the Senior Research Fellow, The Kirby Institute and has no direct reports.
Skills and Experience:
- Relevant tertiary qualification in a health or science related discipline with subsequent relevant experience or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education, training and experience.
- Proven project experience, with an understanding of the project life cycle and development of project plans, objectives, and documentation.
- Demonstrated knowledge of infectious disease control and harm reduction programmes, including Australia’s national blood-borne virus strategies.
- Familiarity with data collection issues related to injecting drug use and NSPs.
- Experience in data management and analysis and quantitative analysis of large datasets with statistical analysis packages (e.g., SAS, STATA).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with highly developed interpersonal skills and the ability to work with staff and students from diverse backgrounds.
- Excellent time management skills, with a demonstrated ability to respond to changing priorities, manage multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines by using judgement and initiative.
- Proven project experience, with an understanding of the project life cycle and development of project plans, objectives, and documentation.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and productively within a team, but also to take initiative and work independently while managing competing demands.
- An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
- Knowledge of health & safety (psychosocial and physical) responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
