Why Your Role Matters
The Associate Dean (Research) is a position within the Rector’s Office at UNSW Canberra providing Academic leadership in respect of research strategy and delivery across UNSW Canberra. The role serves as the faculty representative on University research committees, and is primary conduit between the Faculty and central research teams in the University.
The Associate Dean (Research) reports to the Deputy Rector, UNSW Canberra
The expectation is that fulfilment of this role will take most of the academic workload allocated to teaching and to service (for a balanced academic). It is expected that the Associate Dean (Research) will continue to pursue an active program of research and to undertake limited teaching.
Who You Are (skills and experience):
- A demonstrated record of academic leadership.
• Demonstrated understanding of all aspects of the strategic research issues impacting UNSW Canberra, with proven ability to develop and implement strategies aligning to institutional priorities.
• Demonstrated leadership achievement at UNSW Canberra or University level.
• Demonstrated strong research profile with a significant publication record in high-quality journals, a proven track record of research collaboration, success in securing external grants, and a history of translating research into impactful outcomes. Additionally, a strong record of HDR supervision is essential.
• Demonstrated ability to build and sustain interdisciplinary research collaborations within the faculty, across the institution, and/or with external partners, including industry and government stakeholders.
• Possess knowledge of research policies, compliance requirements (e.g., ethics, integrity, intellectual property), and management of research funding and resources.
• A demonstrated commitment to fostering an inclusive research environment that supports equity, diversity, and the development of early-career researchers and underrepresented groups.
• Possess the ability and capacity to direct and monitor the implementation and effectiveness of business improvements, and a health and safety management system.
