About UNSW Canberra
The University of New South Wales (UNSW) is inviting expressions of interest for the position of Faculty Executive Director (FED), a key leadership position based in Canberra. This role will contribute to the strategic and operational management of the Faculty of UNSW Canberra including its staff and activities operating at the Australian Defence Force Academy, the University’s Canberra City site and the Launch site on Northbourne Avenue.

Why Your Role Matters:
The Faculty Executive Director (FED) is a pivotal leadership role, essential for the strategic and operational management of the Faculty. As a member of the Executive team, the FED oversees the delivery of operational services to ensure the Faculty meets its academic, research, teaching, and learning outcomes. Acting as the conduit between the Faculty and UNSW professional service teams, the FED ensures seamless collaboration. The role also involves significant engagement with internal and external stakeholders, including the Department of Defence and Government partners, to advocate for the University and Faculty's interests.

Responsibilities: 
Key responsibilities of the Faculty Executive Director (FED) include:

  • Collaboration with the Rector (Dean) and senior colleagues to deliver the Faculty's strategic plan, implement key actions, and provide strategic advice on emerging issues.
  • Champion Faculty and University initiatives and activities within the Faculty
  • Lead the delivery of high-quality operational support to academic functions across the Faculty.

Who You Are: 
Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Demonstrated stakeholder management skills in a complex environment.
  • Demonstrated commercial acumen and a track record in setting and managing large scale budgets, meeting financial targets, and managing for financial sustainability.
  • Extensive experience in people leadership, development, engagement and management, with the demonstrated skills to create a positive workplace culture and deliver quality outcomes.
  • In depth knowledge and understanding of key strategic issues in the higher education sector, nationally and internationally, and how these translate to the practical operational management requirements of a large scale, research active, student focused and internationally competitive academic enterprise.
