The New Ventures Team (NVT) within UNSW’s Industry and Innovation (I&I) portfolio is focused on accelerating the development and establishment of new spinout companies and actively managing and supporting our existing and growing portfolio companies. The initiative aligns with UNSW’s 2025 Strategic Plan to increase research translation and create societal impact from UNSW research and will continue to be a key strategic pillar for the University.
Reporting to the Senior Manager NVT, you will assist the team managing the existing portfolio companies, forming new ventures and facilitating effective funding of these promising start-ups. You will be building and fostering investor relationships with the view to grow the equity portfolio of UNSW’s New South Innovations Pty Ltd (NSi).
You will collaborate with UNSW’s external engagement teams to increase public recognition of the University’s leading entrepreneurial culture, cutting edge research and expertise within the academic and research community.

Who you are
You have a relevant tertiary qualification and direct experience working with or in research-based spinouts or startups. We are open to candidates with background in investor relations, portfolio management or in venture capital. Importantly, you will need to demonstrate the following skills and experience:
- Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to negotiate, influence and build consensus at senior levels and with diverse stakeholders
- Planning and organisational skills, with experience in establishing priorities, allocating resources and meeting deadlines while working under pressure in a large, complex organisation
- Analytical and conceptual skills including demonstrated ability to quickly assimilate new concepts and information and deliver positive, innovative solutions
- Developing and writing content, including business cases for investors, industry, government and external audiences
- An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines
- Knowledge of health & safety (psychosocial and physical) responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training
