Why your role matters

We are seeking a Manager for the Career Advancement & Education Focused (EF) Program to lead the delivery, evaluation, and continuous improvement of the UNSW Education Focused (EF) Program. This award-winning program supports over 500 EF academics, advocating for their professional development and enhancing their teaching practices. The manager will be responsible for implementing career advancement initiatives, offering leadership opportunities in a cross-disciplinary setting, and fostering a strong sense of community among EF academics.

Additionally, the Manager will oversee the design, delivery, and assessment of career recognition programs for teaching academics. This includes managing awards, grants, fellowships, the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL), and mentorship programs. The role will also contribute to the initiatives within the Academic & EF Development teams, in alignment with UNSW's strategic vision to provide accessible education that empowers current and future generations.

This position reports to the Lead, Academic Development and Career Advancement, and works closely with the Director, Education Excellence, and Senior Lecturer, Academic Development. The role also includes managing two direct reports.

About You:  

  • Relevant tertiary qualification with subsequent experience in a relevant field or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through a combination of education, training and/or experience. AdvanceHE Fellowship (FHEA or SFHEA category) is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience in educational programs and initiatives for education focussed staff, academic development, higher education and/or professional learning within a large organisation or institution.
  • Demonstrated experience in designing, developing, facilitating and evaluating career reward and recognition, initiatives and resources and to support and enable career recognition for all academic staff with teaching responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated success and experience managing staff to develop and foster teamwork, ensure a client focused approach and achievement of shared goals, ability to motivate and inspire staff to ensure commitment and engagement, experience in supporting team members to develop their professional capabilities including identifying and supporting opportunities for professional development.
  • High-level interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills with the ability to build and maintain effective collaborative professional relationships with staff at all levels, and internal and external stakeholders.
  • Outstanding organisational skills including the ability to deliver across multiple initiatives simultaneously and provide leadership in a complex and high-volume work environment.
  • Advanced level of computer literacy with excellent skills in Microsoft Office applications and the ability to learn and utilise new technologies and platforms to enhance delivery and accessibility of programs and initiatives.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
