About The Kirby Institute:
The Kirby Institute is a world-leading health research institute at UNSW Sydney. We work to eliminate infectious diseases, globally. Our specialisation is in developing health solutions for the most at-risk communities. Putting communities at the heart of our research, we develop tests, treatments, cures and prevention strategies that have the greatest chance of success.
Why Your Role Matters:
The Program Manager (Quality) will work as part of a multidisciplinary team supporting infectious disease point-of-care testing programs operating in remote and regional Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities across Australia. Specifically, the Project Manager (Quality) plays a lead role in the planning, development and overseeing key strategic quality projects related to the Point-of Care testing programs nationally.
Providing high level project management of quality and safety initiatives across multiple implementation projects, a priority for this role is to project manage and undertake activities to prepare for future successful National accreditation of the Program under the NPAAC standards. This includes the development, implementation and review of project systems and governance structures in collaboration with the project team. The role also requires stakeholder engagement, management and quality assurance, including quality reporting against key performance indicators.
The Project Manager (Quality) position is within the Surveillance and Evaluation Research Program and reports to the Head of the Surveillance, Evaluation and Research Program and has no direct reports.
Skills and Experience:
- Relevant tertiary Science degree (min 3-year degree) and significant experience (>10 years) work experience as a scientist in a laboratory setting, including laboratory management experience.
- Demonstrated project management experience, with an in-depth understanding of the project life cycle and strategic development of project plans, objectives and documentation. Experience managing open tender processes will be highly regarded.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience of working with Point of Care (POC) programs in decentralised (non-laboratory-based) settings, including quality management.
- Extensive knowledge of relevant industry standards, including ISO 15189 and NPAAC Tier 1,2,3 and 4 documents, with demonstrated successful experience in NATA accreditation processes. Experience as a NATA assessor will be highly regarded.
- Demonstrated understanding and experience with POC testing connectivity including integration with laboratory information systems.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively in a multidisciplinary team, but also to take initiative and work independently whilst managing competing priorities.
- Demonstrated experience in stakeholder engagement, ideally with organisations in alignment with this program (i.e., peak Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander representative bodies, Aboriginal medical services / Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations, health department/ public health representatives / pathology providers etc).
- Excellent organisational, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with proven capacity to work independently and meet deadlines.
- Advanced written and verbal communication skills, with a high level of attention to detail for deliverables produced.
- Excellent time management skills, with a demonstrated ability to respond to changing priorities, manage multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines by using judgement and initiative.
