The Medicines Intelligence Research Program, within the UNSW Medicine & Health’s School of Population Health, is a leading research hub on health systems performance and the quality use of medicines in Australia. We are the Co-ordinating Centre for the Medicines Intelligence Centre of Research Excellence (MI-CRE).

The goal of the Medicines Intelligence Research Program is to improve quality use of medicines and reduce medicine-related harm. We use population-based linked data (including 'big data platforms') and sophisticated methods to study the association between the effects of medicines, how they are used in practice, and their benefits, harms and costs. Our multidisciplinary team partners with clinicians, policymakers and consumers to generate real-world evidence about the use and impact of medicines in routine clinical care. Our research leads to smarter and safer medicines use, improved health system performance, and better individual and population health.
