The Opportunity

The School of Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications, Faculty of Engineering, has an opportunity for a School Manager. This is a key leadership position within a large and complex teaching and research school. You will be responsible for the operational and strategic management of the day-to-day running of the school, including financial management, human resources, information systems, marcomms, future student recruitment, student administration, estate management, and work health and safety. This is a highly collaborative role where you will work closely with the Head of School, academics, and professional staff in the school and the wider faculty.

The role of the School Manager reports to the Head of School, with a dotted reporting line to the Faculty Executive Director. This position has direct reports related to Teaching Support Administration and General Administration along with a dotted line management to the Faculty shared service model including, Health Safety and Environment (HSE) and the Higher Degree Research (HDR).

  • Salary, Level 9: Starting at $138,171 per annum + 17% superannuation

Skills and Experience

  • Appropriate degree and extensive relevant management experience or equivalent in an academic or similar large and complex environment (or equivalent competency gained through another combination of education, training and experience).
  • Superior communication skills and demonstrated high level interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent consultation, influencing and negotiation skills and proven ability to engage effectively with diverse internal and external stakeholders.
  • Extensive experience managing, coaching and developing staff.
  • Strong initiative and superior analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in financial management and proven ability to interpret financial data to provide strategic advice.
  • Proven skills and experience in strategic and resource planning, goal setting and project management.
  • Substantial experience in business improvement activities and leading change activities.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
