The Opportunity
The Defence Research Institute (DRI) was established to stimulate, unify and support all defence-related research within the UNSW community while striving to build and maintain a network across Australian and international defence industries.

Reporting to the Director, Defence Research Institute, Chris Mills, you will assist the Defence Research Institute team in identifying, developing and maintaining research opportunities, partnerships and related business deals. The Business Develop Associate–Defence will work closely with colleagues in UNSW’s other major research initiatives including cyber, space and AI, and our Division of Research & Enterprise.

About the successful applicant
Level 7
You possess a relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent expertise gained through education, training, and experience. Your strong stakeholder management skills and business acumen demonstrated through building and maintaining effective internal and external networks, have supported successful organisational outcomes with a focus on Defence.
You are an excellent communicator, adept at engaging with diverse stakeholders, and you bring valuable knowledge and experience in university research, education initiatives, and defence-related technologies. You are skilled in using and maintaining CRM systems or similar tools, enabling you to obtain, analyse, and present complex data to support decision-making. Your experience includes developing and reviewing policies and procedures, setting priorities, and monitoring workflows to ensure efficiency.
At Level 8 (in addition to Level 7), you also have proven experience in securing research funding or managing commercial engagements, preparing detailed correspondence, engagement plans, and presentations, and leveraging extensive networks to engage effectively with Defence, the defence industry, and external stakeholders.
Eligibility: You must hold Australian Working Rights; we are unable to offer visa sponsorship for this position.
