Why your role matters

The Team Leader for Admissions Training and Compliance is a key role responsible for ensuring the admissions team adheres to regulatory standards while developing and delivering comprehensive training programs. This position demands a combination of compliance expertise, leadership skills, and training capabilities to uphold high standards of professionalism and compliance within the department.

Reporting to the Manager of Admissions and Scholarships Enablement, the role includes leadership of two direct reports.

Specific accountabilities for this role include:  

  • Lead, guide, and motivate the Admissions Training & Compliance team within an environment that promotes respect, accountability, quality service and facilities, and focuses on high level customer service and innovation.
  • Effectively plan, supervise and monitor the workload of the team daily and over the yearly cycle to coordinate training and compliance functions.
  • Develop, implement, and enhance compliance strategies, policies, and procedures to ensure the admissions process aligns with relevant regulations and industry best practices.
  • Conduct regular audits to assess and review admissions practices, documentation, and processes, to identify potential areas of non-compliance and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
  • Develop, implement and maintain processes and procedures to ensure a consistent approach for admissions, including document and records management, ensuring compliance with relevant policies and procedures.
  • Design, create, and deliver comprehensive training programs for the Admissions team, covering compliance requirements, ethical practices, and professional conduct.
  • Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders, including Admissions, Legal and Compliance teams, Conduct & Integrity Unit, and senior management, to align training and compliance efforts with institutional goals.
  • Provide accurate advice, information, interpretation and application of relevant UNSW policies and procedures to applicants and staff.
  • Contribute to the statistical reports and continuous business improvements activities of the Admissions Office.
  • Contribute to the benchmarking, assessment of concordance and development of assessment procedures for academic and English language qualifications.
  • Contribute to wider Enablement team responsibilities particularly during peak periods.

  • Cooperate with all health & safety policies and procedures of the university and take all reasonable care to ensure that your actions or omissions do not impact on the psychosocial or physical health and safety of yourself or others.

About You:     

  • Relevant tertiary qualification with subsequent relevant experience or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education, training and experience.
  • Proven ability to train and develop staff to deliver a high level of service, to lead and motivate a team and influence staff that are not direct reports.
  • Excellent time management skills, with the ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple tasks with competing deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a high level of attention to detail and problem solving abilities Ability to interpret policy and procedures documents, to use initiative when applying policy and guidelines, and to make positive contributions to policy, strategy and business operations.
  • Excellent time management skills, with a demonstrated ability to respond to changing priorities, manage multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines by using judgement and initiative.
  • Demonstrated success working effectively and collaboratively on initiatives with a range of stakeholders, with an ability to foster and maintain a range of internal and external networks
  • Highly proficient computer literacy with excellent skills in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Admissions within the higher education sector.

This role requires occasional weekend and after-hours work as well as the ability to work during the Christmas & New Year period.
