School of Clinical Medicine SWS
This position will work within a team of the Cancer Clinical Academic Group (CAG) of Maridulu Budyari Gumal, the Sydney Partnership for Health, Education, Research and Enterprise (SPHERE), an academic health science partnership located at the Kensington Campus. The vision of SPHERE Cancer CAG is to unite cancer research into a globally led partnership to deliver continuing evidence-based practice in diagnosis, intervention and support.
This position is supported by the South West Sydney Clinical Campuses comprise the UNSW efforts at Liverpool, Bankstown, Campbelltown, Fairfield and Braeside in the south west of Sydney. We work closely with local clinical facilities and the Ingham Institute for Applied Medical Research across southwestern Sydney. The Clinical Campus is focused on further developing the educational and research opportunities for UNSW students, staff and conjoints across the southwest. The campus is also home to the state-of-the-art Southwest Sydney Clinical Skills and Simulation Centre.
Details of the role
A Backend Engineer/Fullstack Developer plays a key role within SPHERE Cancer Clinical Academic Group (CAG) in providing technical support to the OMICS into Clinical Practice Area of Focus. The role entails building practical tools and resources to support precision oncology, working at the intersection of advanced technology and cancer care. The role reports to the Senior Research Fellow and has no direct reports.
Some key skills required:
- Relevant tertiary qualification with subsequent relevant experience or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education, training and experience.
- Design, develop, and maintain robust RESTful APIs and microservices for our AI-enabled clinician portal.
- Implement secure data pipelines connecting to external research databases and clinical trial networks.
- Collaborate with data scientists, researchers, and clinicians to implement the AI decision support system.
- Manage, process, and integrate data from clinical trials registries. Prior experience in clinical genomics, oncology, and/or managing data of clinical trial registries are highly desirable.
- Build scalable backend infrastructure for processing and analyzing clinical and genomics data.
- Develop authentication and authorization systems compliant with healthcare privacy standards.
- Experience designing and building JSON-based RESTful APIs and microservices.
- Strong proficiency in at least one backend programming language (Python, PHP, and/or Perl).
