Why Your Role Matters:

The Senior Research Associate/Post-Doctoral Fellow (Level B) is expected to carry out independent and/or team research within Orthopaedic Surgery and Musculoskeletal Medicine with a focus on clinical effectiveness studies (clinical trials, registry studies, and systematic reviews) and to carry out activities to develop their research expertise relevant to their particular field of study.

The Senior Research Associate/Post-Doctoral Fellow will report to the Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery, St George Clinical Campus, and has no direct reports.

 

Responsibilities:

Specific accountabilities for this role include:

  • Engage in individual and/or collaborative research in a manner consistent with disciplinary practice.
  • Create scholarly impact in the discipline which is recognised by peers in the advancement of disciplinary knowledge.
  • Conduct research/scholarly activities under limited supervision, either independently or as a member of a team (as per the norms of the discipline).
  • Formation of networks with other researchers to facilitate collaboration.
  • Conduct research in accordance with TGA guidelines, Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and the NHMRC National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research.
  • Establish a personal research portfolio and start developing independent research proposals in research areas including but not limited to, hip and knee osteoarthritis, reducing complications following joint replacement surgery, shoulder and elbow reconstructive surgery, and musculoskeletal injury and trauma.
  • Contribute to the development of applications for competitive funding and obtaining research grant funding under the guidance of senior colleagues.
  • Participate as co-investigator or chief investigator in competitive grant applications, or show evidence of active participation in research collaborations funded by competitive grants.
  • Design research projects.
  • Mentor and guide students and colleagues and develop the next generation of academics through involvement in supervision of HDRs (as per the norms of the discipline).
  • Work within the scope of practice as defined within the AHRPA (or equivalent professional body) guidelines.
  • Respect and uphold the dignity and rights of consumers, relatives, carers, colleagues and members of the community and respond to the queries of research participants in a timely manner.

 

Who You Are: 

  • A PhD in a related discipline, and/or relevant work experience.
  • Current driver’s license.
  • Proven commitment to proactively keeping up to date with discipline knowledge and developments.
  • A track record of significant involvement with the industry.
  • Demonstrated track record in musculoskeletal medicine/surgery research and publications with outcomes of high quality and high impact with clear evidence of the desire and ability to continually achieve research excellence as well as the capacity for research leadership.
  • Proven ability to manage a large research portfolio and undertake all research related tasks in a timely and effective manner.
  • High level communication skills and ability to network effectively and interact with all key stakeholders including investigators, health care providers, patients and research participants.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships.
  • Evidence of highly developed interpersonal and organisational skills.
  • Knowledge of Good Clinical Practice (GCP), the NHMRC National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research and guidelines governing clinical trials.
