Why Your Role Matters:

The Research Officer will provide technical and research support to senior research staff, contributing to the achievement of key objectives related to the Omico Molecular Oncology Board (MOB) within various research projects, including the national Cancer Screening Program (CaSP). The role will require the contribution and application of knowledge in the field of molecular oncology.

The role reports to the Senior Program Manager – MOB, supporting the Centre for Molecular Oncology, and has no direct reports.

 

Responsibilities:

Specific accountabilities for this role include:

  • Provide practical and efficient research support to stakeholders, assisting in the conduct of research that contributes to the success of the research programs, contributing where appropriate.
  • Develop and maintain relevant study materials (standard operating procedures, data dictionaries, database manuals, etc) in accordance with good clinical practice.
  • Lead coordination of dissemination of research findings, including delegation of tasks to team members and monitoring of screening timelines to ensure timely return of patient results.
  • Coordinate, plan and complete day-to-day research activities within the framework of agreed project timelines and responsibilities.
  • Provide support in the conceptualisation, design, and successful conduct of processes within the research programs.
  • Monitor research protocols, provide problem solving and resolution to any evolving problems related to design, implementation and analysis.
  • Manage the technical aspects of databases, including coordinating and executing data cleaning, data management processes and ensuring research integrity in research databases.
  • Perform complex data queries and reporting duties as required by the research programs.
  • Liaise and communicate with organisations, data custodians, stakeholders and collaborators and actively participate in meetings and discussions as required.
  • Conduct training for team members and coordinate day-to-day activities for up to 5 Research Assistant roles.

 

Who You Are:

A university degree in life sciences, genetics or related discipline, or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through a combination of education, training or experience.

  • Demonstrated experience in the implementation, coordination and management of clinical research projects.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a high level of attention to detail for deliverables produced.
  • Knowledge of research protocols, experimental design and planning as involved in developing research projects and reporting against milestones.
  • Experience working with a range of computer systems and applications, including participant databases.
  • Demonstrated superior interpersonal communication skills to initiate and maintain effective stakeholder relationships whilst exercising discretion and confidentiality.
  • Excellent time management skills, with a demonstrated ability to respond to changing priorities, manage multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines by using judgement and initiative.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and productively within a team, but also to take initiative and work independently while managing competing demands.
