Why your Role Matters:
The People Data Engineer plays a crucial role in designing, building, and maintaining People & Culture (P&C) data infrastructure and pipelines, ensuring the reliability, scalability, and efficiency of our data processing systems. The role will be responsible for setting up and managing access controls to ensure privacy of P&C data. The People Data Engineer will define user roles, permissions, and authentication mechanisms and use Unity Catalogue to ensure that only authorised individuals can access sensitive data stored in Delta Lake or other data repositories.
The People Data Engineer reports to the People Data Engineer Lead and has no direct reports.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with stakeholders to design and implement scalable and robust data infrastructure using Delta Lake on Azure. Develop and maintain efficient data pipelines for data ingestion, processing, transformation, and storage.
- Lead strategic engagement with key stakeholders to define requirements and identify optimal data sources. Engage in comprehensive data validation, cleansing and analysis to produce actionable insights, advanced analytics, and detailed reporting.
- Design and implement data models and schemas to support business requirements and data analysis. Ensure data integrity, consistency, and optimisation for efficient querying and analysis.
- Design, implement, and maintain pipelines to enable data collection, transformation and provision of data access points for educational analytics and machine learning applications.
- Develop interactive, user-friendly dashboards utilising complex DAX (Data Analysis Expressions) to create advanced calculations and visualizations and ensure that the dashboards are continuously refined to enhance their functionality and effectiveness.
- Manage requests and release in DevOps and MLOps processes.
- Enforce data governance policies and best practices.
- Ensure data accuracy, integrity, privacy and security in all data systems and analytics processing by complying with relevant frameworks, regulations and policies, and verifying and validating data quality via suitable strategies.
- Monitor data pipelines and infrastructure performance, identify bottlenecks, and optimize for scalability and efficiency.
- Document data engineering processes, workflows, and technical specifications to enable effective collaboration and knowledge sharing.
- Identify and resolve data-related issues, troubleshoot failures, and ensure timely resolution of data pipeline issues.
Skills and Experience
- Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related field with relevant experience in data engineering, cloud engineering, business intelligence development, or an equivalent level of competency gained through any combination of education, training or experience.
- Advanced cloud computing skills and experience in the development and implementation of data resources and pipelines in cloud-based computing environments. Proven experience in Azure Data Factory/Synapse workspace, Azure Machine Learning Studio and Databricks are highly desirable
- Demonstrated proficiency in data manipulation tools to interrogate large-scale databases. Proven experience in Synapse SQL server/serverless server and Databricks SQL server is highly desirable.
- Proven advanced expertise in Power BI and DAX, with a strong ability to build efficient data models and execute complex data transformations and calculations. Skilled in leveraging advanced DAX functions to develop sophisticated measures, optimise performance, and create high-quality, insightful dashboards and reports.
- Demonstrated ability to define, develop and implement testing procedures, including knowledge of automated testing software and methodologies.
- Demonstrable high-level problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- High level organisational and project management skills.
