Why your role matters
The Career Coach is a vital member of the Pro Vice-Chancellor Education & Student Experience Portfolio, within the Experience Pillar and Employability Theme. This role focuses on delivering high-quality, specialized support and guidance for students in career and life design. Responsibilities include providing career coaching, leading career development programs, and facilitating workshops and initiatives.
The Career Coach will collaborate closely with faculties, divisions, student partners, and other stakeholders to co-design initiatives that support students in developing an integrated personal, professional, and ethical identity. This approach aims to enhance the employability of UNSW students and foster their overall development.
This role reports to the Manager, Career Development, and does not have direct reports.
Specific accountabilities for this role include:
- Provide high quality and impactful front-line career coaching, programs, workshops and initiatives that enhance the UNSW students’ employability.
- Collect and analyse data to guide innovation, quality and continuous improvement in the work of the UNSW Careers team and, where relevant, promote alignment and mutual value with the teams within Employability and the broader portfolio.
- Contribute to the monitoring, evaluating, and reporting on the effectiveness of initiatives, programs and activities using data analytics to achieve equity, diversity, and inclusion; continuous improvement; and innovation.
- Develop, foster, and maintain highly effective working relationships with staff and teams in the portfolio and relevant staff in faculties and divisions and other internal and external stakeholders.
About You:
- Relevant tertiary qualification with subsequent relevant experience in the field of employability or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education, training and experience relevant to educational programs and initiatives.
- Demonstrated understanding of the current thinking on university graduate employability and success.
- Proven ability in supporting students to engage effectively in career and life design, including the construction of an integrated personal and professional identity, to enhance student employability.
- Demonstrated success working effectively and collaboratively in the design and delivery of career coaching, programs, workshops and initiatives that support student employability in a higher education context.
- Strong service orientation and client focused together with excellent interpersonal and written, verbal and digital communication skills
- The ability to build and maintain positive and professional relationships with staff at all levels and internal and external stakeholders.
- Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively and to contribute positively and proactively to the team’s work.
- Demonstrated initiative and the ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple tasks with competing priorities and deadlines in a multi-stakeholder environment.
- An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
- Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
