Why Your Role Matters

The role of Student Communications Officer provides day-to-day communications development within the Student Communications Team. The Student Communications Officer is responsible for supporting the delivery of content to students internally, that is both engaging and appropriate via a range of channels (including email, newsletters and web) and ensuring that all students have access to relevant and up to date information.

The role of Student Communications Officer reports to the Student Communications Coordinator and may have casual staff and student interns reporting to them.  

Main responsibilities Summary

  • Provide high level support to the Manager, Student Communications to deliver student communications that are personalised, well-written and delivered in a timely and relevant way
  • Provide support to the Student Communications Coordinator to deliver the agreed content strategies of the Division and University, across all forms of content
  • Support the management of data in the University’s CRM (Microsoft Dynamics) and email marketing platform, ensuring the appropriate delivery of targeted and all student communications; ensuring content is optimised as required
  • Develop communications to meet the wide- ranging information needs of current students and various cohorts
  • Produce and distribute the weekly student newsletter. Work with the Student Communications team to collate content for upcoming events, news and opportunities across the University, from faculties, services and student lifecycle teams.
  • In partnership with the Student Communications Coordinators and Manager, Student Communications, liaise with and provide best practice guidance to key stakeholders, including student representatives and staff who are supporting student services across the University, ensuring student communications can be effectively managed and enhanced
  • Provide data, evidence, and input in generating reports for senior managers and engage with the testing and evaluation of the success of communication campaigns

Who You Are

We are looking for someone who is aligned with UNSW’s vision and values and comes with:

  • Previous experience in an internal communications role is highly regarded
  • Demonstrated experience adapting content to align with internal branding
  • Demonstrated expertise with written communication, content production and curation across different digital channels
  • Demonstrated stakeholder management and relationships building skills
  • Knowledge of communications and digital content best practice including reporting engagement and analytics
  • Impeccable attention to detail to ensure accuracy, consistency, and the ability to enhance and bring content to life
  • Understanding of target audiences, with an effective writing style and ability to deliver high impact messaging to key audiences
  • Proven success using initiative to develop, drive and share content ideas
  • Previous experience or knowledge of higher education will be highly regarded
  • Experience with CRM, ideally with Microsoft Dynamics

Working hours are generally Monday to Friday, business hours. The role can’t be done remotely however there is flexibility to work from home a few days a week. We’d like to have the successful candidate start as soon as possible, with an end date in end of July 2026.  The role is vacant due to an employee stepping up into a secondment opportunity within UNSW.
