Why The Role Matters:
The Centre for Sustainable Development Reform (CSDR) established by the UNSW Faculty of Law and Justice in 2022, aims to connect knowledge and people to make small steps towards big changes. It creates safe spaces for changemakers—from government, business, and wider society—to plan pragmatic action for a sustainable low-carbon future informed by knowledge and insights from across the world. The CSDR builds on diverse research, education, and knowledge exchange partnerships aligned with global sustainable development commitments to drive forward the implementation of innovative and transformative workstreams. Currently active in over 20 countries, the CSDR works closely with decision-makers across government, international institutions, local communities, and the private and non-private sectors to create new approaches to decision making as well as bold and intelligent reforms.
Our team is made up of multi-disciplinary focussed researchers who are working on topics at the intersections of economics, politics, law, environmental management, data science and development. The Partnership Business Development Manager will provide tactical leadership and delivery expertise in identifying and securing meaningful and valuable funding opportunities for GOAP Partners and the CSDR.
Skills and Experience:

- A relevant tertiary qualification with significant professional experience in business development, fundraising, or grant writing, or an equivalent level of knowledge and expertise gained through a combination of education, training, and experience.
- Proven experience in securing large-scale funding, developing partnerships, and managing donor relationships, ideally within the public or non-profit sector.
- Exceptional research, writing, and analytical skills, with a demonstrated ability to develop compelling funding proposals, reports, and communications tailored to diverse audiences.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage with senior stakeholders both internally (faculty, leadership) and externally (government bodies, international partners) to garner investment. Demonstrated success in fostering productive and collaborative relationships across departments, stakeholders, and sectors.
- Excellent project management skills with a capacity to oversee multiple initiatives simultaneously, ensuring successful outcomes within deadlines.
- Thorough understanding of relevant policies and procedures, particularly those relating to funding and grants, and relevant external environments such as government regulations and international initiatives.
Accountabilities:

- Lead the development of business strategies and plans for seeking funding opportunities from governmental, philanthropic, corporate, and international sources for GOAP and CSDR initiatives.
- Provide high-level strategic advice to senior leadership at UNSW, including the Directors of the CSDR, on trends and developments within the funding landscape.
- Contribute to long-term strategic planning to ensure the financial sustainability and continued impact of GOAP and the secretariat.
- In collaboration with CSDR colleagues and GOAP Partners, lead the research, development, and preparation of high-quality funding proposals and grant applications, managing the submission process to ensure timely delivery and compliance with application requirements.
- Bring, build and sustain relationships with existing and potential funding partners, maintaining an active network of donors, government agencies, and corporate sponsors.
- Represent UNSW, CSDR, and GOAP in relevant external engagements, elevating their visibility and fostering credibility within the sustainable development and ocean governance sectors.
- Lead, mentor, and provide guidance to CSDR staff involved in business development, funding, and partnership-related activities.
