The UNSW Institute for Climate Risk and Response (ICRR) brings together expertise from across the Faculties of Science, Business and Law and Justice. In partnership with industry, it will drive an innovative research agenda, and be a focus of debate on the risks and opportunities of our changing climate. As a leading voice in climate risk and response both nationally and in the Asia-Pacific it will inform end-users' risk management frameworks and allow robust planning regarding the impacts of climate change for business, government and policy makers.
The Project Officer plays a key role within the Institute for Climate Risk & Response in providing practical and efficient project support for project teams and key stakeholders.
The role entails providing project coordination and support, reporting and analytical support, developing communications, building key internal and external relationships, and providing administrative support for key programs and projects.
About the role
• $100K - $107K plus 17% Superannuation and annual leave loading
• Fixed Term – 16 months (to July 31, 2026)
• Part-time (28 hours per week)
The role reports to the Institute Manager and has no direct reports.
Specific responsibilities for this role include:
- Support the delivery of Institute projects and initiatives to achieve operational and strategic goals.
- Support the development of project & events plans and schedules and participate in planning processes as required.
- Monitor, track and report on the status of project deliverables to ensure time, cost and quality metrics are in line with approved project plans for assigned projects.
- Provide practical and proactive advice and administrative services to project teams and stakeholders.
- Assess and monitor project risks and issues and provide solutions where applicable.
- Support adherence to UNSW governance pathways to ensure projects are managed within a defined, consistent and proven set of rules for project development.
- Coordinate events including planner management, developing visual content & assets (according to UNSW style guide), vendor and registration management, communications support and speaker liaison.
- Act as a primary contact for key internal and external stakeholders, maintaining effective channels of communication, analysing requests and correspondence to prioritise priorities as well as urgent and often sensitive matters.
- Align with and actively demonstrate the Code of Conduct and Values.
- Cooperate with all health & safety policies and procedures of the university and take all reasonable care to ensure that your actions or omissions do not impact on the psychosocial or physical health and safety of yourself or others.

To be successful in this role you will have:
- Relevant tertiary qualification with subsequent relevant experience or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education, training and experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a high level of attention to detail for deliverables produced.
- Sound stakeholder management skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with a range of stakeholders.
- Experience working with a range of computer systems and applications.
- Excellent time management skills, with a demonstrated ability to respond to changing priorities, manage multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines by using judgement and initiative.
- Project experience, with an understanding of the project life cycle and development of project plans, objectives and documentation.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and productively within a team, but also to take initiative and work independently while managing competing demands.
- An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
- Knowledge of health & safety (psychosocial and physical) responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
