The Opportunity
The Graduate School of Biomedical Engineering at UNSW is looking for a motivated Biosensor R&D Engineer to join our project team working on an ongoing multinational research program aimed at developing next-gen implantable bioelectronics. You will be joining a collaborative team of academics, engineers, and postgraduate students to work on the research, development, and testing of implantable electronics for biosensing. Your role will involve providing technical and research support to senior research staff on various projects. This includes contributing and applying your expertise in implantable electronic sensors within the Graduate School of Biomedical Engineering.
This role reports to Dr David Tsai and has no direct reports.
- Salary, Level 6: $100,354 to $107,054 per annum + 17% superannuation
- Full time
- Fixed term – 12 months with possible extension

Skills & Experience
- A Master’s degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, or related discipline, with two or more years of hands-on experience in electrochemistry, or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through a combination of education, training or experience.
- Demonstrated relevant experience and working knowledge of methods used in:
- Chemical recipe development for electrochemical sensors.
- Functionalisation of electrochemical sensors, including electrodeposition and drop-casting.
- Potentiostat techniques, including cyclic voltammetry.
- Performance characterisation and optimisation of electrochemical sensors.
- Photolithography, deposition, and etching techniques for microfabricated devices.
- Practical experience and theoretical knowledge of the following is desirable:
- Biomedical electronics.
- Data acquisition of physiological signals.
- Animal-based interventional research studies.
- Knowledge of research protocols, experimental design and planning as involved in developing research projects and reporting against milestones.
- Demonstrated superior interpersonal communication skills to initiate and maintain effective stakeholder relationships whilst exercising discretion and confidentiality.
- Excellent time management skills, with a demonstrated ability to respond to changing priorities, manage multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines by using judgement and initiative.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a high level of attention to detail and the ability to liaise effectively with a range of stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and productively within a team, but also to take initiative and work independently while managing competing demands.
- An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
- Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
