  • Employment Type: Part-Time up to 25 hours per week (flexible for the right candidate)
  • Duration: 12-month contract
  • Remuneration: Level 8 $123,044 - $138,637 (pro rata) + 17% super + leave loading
  • Location: UNSW Canberra City

Why Your Role Matters:      

UNSW Canberra City represents a pivotal strategic initiative for UNSW, poised to redefine the University's presence in the nation's capital. The Development, Communication and Engagement Manager sits within the Estate Management team and will play a crucial role in fostering understanding and support for the development, construction, and ongoing management of this exciting new campus.  The Manager will be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive communication and engagement strategy that addresses the needs of diverse stakeholders, including government agencies, industry partners, local community members, UNSW staff and students, and the broader public. This role will proactively engage with stakeholders across UNSW and in particular work in close collaboration with Estate Management colleagues and UNSW Canberra to ensure a cohesive and impactful communication strategy.  The role reports to Head of Major Projects, Canberra and has no direct reports. 

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive communication and engagement strategy specifically focused on the development, construction, and ongoing estate management of UNSW Canberra City. 
  • Develop and deliver communication activities and engaging content (e.g., website updates, newsletters, social media posts) that explains Estate Management initiatives in a timely and accessible way.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders related to estate management, such as, government agencies, construction contractors, facilities management providers, local residents and businesses and UNSW staff and students to ensure alignment and maximise impact.
  • Lead internal communications and consultation activities related to the impact of construction and estate management on UNSW Canberra City operations, including construction timelines, milestones, potential disruptions, and new facility offerings.
  • Create and manage feedback mechanisms to address concerns and incorporate staff input, and that staff are informed about construction timelines, potential disruptions, and new facility offerings. Communicating proactively about potential challenges and providing regular updates on their resolution. 
  • Develop and implement mitigation strategies to minimise disruption and proactively identify and address potential issues that may arise during the development and ongoing management of the campus
  • Write and distribute communications using various traditional and digital communication mediums, tailoring to impacted stakeholders’ preferences where required, working closely with UNSW’s Corporate Communications team to ensure professional and consistent communications.

Skills and Experience:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification with subsequent relevant experience or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education, training and experience.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and implementing communication and engagement strategies for complex building projects.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with diverse groups.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling narratives and tailor messages to different audiences.
  • Proven experience in community consultation and engagement, including managing and addressing community concerns.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to plan, execute, and evaluate communication and engagement activities effectively.
