About the role
The Deputy Dean, UNSW Colleges plays a key support role within the Division of Education and Student Experience under the Pro Vice-Chancellor Student Success, in working closely with the Head of Colleges and the Dean in the day-to-day coordination of the College, building and supporting community across the student resident cohort.
This includes operating as a role model to Resident Mentors and student residents, attending student resident meetings, assisting with the selection of applicants for admission to the College and the allocation of rooms to residents, participating in programs of orientation and training and assisting in the maintenance and duty of care responsibilities, contributing to the pastoral care and support of students, assist in the overnight/after hours on-call Duty Roster and ensure conduct and discipline guidelines are adhered to.

Hours will vary from week to week depending on student needs – as well as what you have going on with your study or other professional commitments. We are currently recruiting across colleges and have a couple of vacancies available; the successful candidates will be expected to start end of January, with contracts ending early December 2025.
About You:
You are a great communicator and will display sensitivity, confidentiality and responsiveness of the needs of resident students and staff. We are looking for someone who:
- Previous experience with academic and pastoral care programs in a student residential setting or equivalent
- Be engaged in study, academic employment and/or professional work associated with UNSW, or be a recent alumni of UNSW and maintain successful commitment to these activities in addition to their functions within the Colleges
- Demonstrated understanding and experience with tertiary students and an understanding of practical approaches to residential life and the goals of residential living with a focus on safety, good order and student personal development
- First aid certification, Fire Warden, Mental Health Awareness and other training or willingness to obtain and maintain throughout the period of employment at UNSW Colleges.
- Knowledge of health & safety (psychosocial and physical) responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training
- Has a Working With Children Check and Police check (you will need to obtain those documents if successful)
