The Faculty of Science teaches approximately 7000 full-time student equivalents, with an academic staff of approximately 500 and general staff of 300. The Faculty is one of the largest and most complex faculties of UNSW Sydney. It comprises the School of Aviation, Biological Earth and Environmental Science (BEES), Biotechnology and Biomolecular Sciences (BABS), Chemistry, Materials Science and Engineering (MSE), Mathematics and Statistics, Psychology, and Physics. It also includes several major Research Centres and field stations. 
 
The Science Education Team (SET) provides support to Faculty of Science staff to achieve educational goals, with a view to enhancing student learning and the student experience. The team offers strategic and operational leadership in the areas of academic program management, education innovation, student experience, quality assurance and accreditation. 
 
The Teaching Support Coordinator leads and coordinates innovative process improvements in teaching administration, ensuring streamlined services across the Faculty of Science. By representing faculty interests and collaborating with key stakeholders within Science and across Faculties, this role drives operational excellence, consistency, and enhanced stakeholder experiences that ultimately contribute to a more positive culture for both academic and professional staff. 
 
About the role
• LEVEL 7 - $110k - $119k plus 17% Superannuation and annual leave loading (Pro-rata)
• Fixed Term – 8 Months
• Part-time (21 hours per week)
 
The Teaching Support Coordinator reports to the Education Support & Quality Manager and has no direct reports.
 
Specific responsibilities for this role include: 
  • Serve as the primary consultant on teaching support processes for the Faculty of Science, leveraging advanced knowledge to advise senior stakeholders on complex administrative and policy issues. 
  • Oversee and contribute to the design, development, delivery and maintenance of processes and their documentation, training guides and resources to support the consistent delivery of teaching support activities across the Faculty. 
  • Lead cross-Faculty benchmarking initiatives to identify, compare, and evaluate diverse approaches to teaching administration. 
  • Plan, coordinate, and facilitate strategic workshops or focus groups that gather input on teaching support “pain points,” operational efficiencies, and emerging needs. 
  • Undertake independent analysis of existing workflows, policies, and systems to develop innovative process enhancements. 
  • Exercise independent judgment in reviewing, interpreting, and adapting University policies to propose tailored solutions that meet both local School needs and broader Faculty objectives. 
  • Mediate solutions among different Schools, ensuring that proposals accommodate a range of interests and drive consistent, high-impact improvements. 
  • Introduce new frameworks, guidelines, or decision-making tools that lead to concrete action items with Faculty-wide impact. 
  • Create and maintain comprehensive training resources, process documentation, and digital tools to support staff in adopting revised workflows. 
  • Work with Faculty leadership to shape mid- to long-term program planning and to review or modify procedures within policy guidelines. 
  • Align with and actively demonstrate the Code of Conduct and Values 
  • Cooperate with all health and safety policies and procedures of the university and take all reasonable care to ensure that your actions or omissions do not impact on the psychosocial or physical health and safety of yourself or others.

To be successful in this role you will have:
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through any other combination of education, training and/or experience. 
  • Deep knowledge of Teaching Support administration and course coordination duties across the Faculty and University, covering a broad range of Courses, Program careers, and delivery modes. 
  • Proven ability to independently analyse complex procedural challenges and develop novel solutions or methodologies that align with strategic objectives. 
  • Demonstrated ability to manage personal workloads within a highly productive operational and strategic team that seeks to generate high levels of client satisfaction. 
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with experience facilitating workshops, mediating between varying interests, and influencing decisions at a senior level. 
  • Strong track record of building networks across multiple faculties or institutions, sharing insights, and aligning stakeholders on shared goals. 
  • Ability to coordinate and integrate the interests of separate work units around a particular process-improvement initiative. 
  • Proficiency in gathering and interpreting relevant quantitative and qualitative data, including the ability to synthesise large amounts of complex information into strategic and operational advice for a variety of stakeholders. 
  • Proficiency in a range of computing skills including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases and a willingness to learn new systems. 
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and work productively as part of a team. 
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines. 
  • Knowledge of health & safety (psychosocial and physical) responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
