The Opportunity

The Head of Architecture is responsible for leading and evolving UNSW’s enterprise architecture, the development of architecture governance and management of the architecture practice.

This role will work with, and provide detailed advice to, the Director – Strategy, Architecture and Portfolio, and the other Directors of IT domains within the department (StARS, Corporate Services, Customer Service Delivery and Cyber Security), to ensure enterprise architecture concerns and practice are incorporated into all technology project scopes and delivery.

This role is familiar with recognised industry bodies of knowledge, latest technology sector developments, practices and products and maintains strong relationships with leading industry suppliers, service providers and partners.

This position will report to the Director – Strategy, Architecture and Portfolio, and will lead a team of Enterprise Architects.

Skills and Experience

• Tertiary qualifications or equivalent industry experience in a related discipline with extensive leadership experience working in a complex business environment.
• Proven record of building strategy, enterprise architecture and information architecture functions who are engaged and respected by their stakeholders.
• Demonstrated experience in driving technology change to achieve business outcomes. Proven ability to adapt to a fast-moving IT landscape and keep pace with latest thinking and new technologies.
• Strong analytical skills, effective business planning and budgeting skills with demonstrated experience in strategic and operational planning.
• Strong leadership and people management skills, with significant experience in building effective / high performance teams along with developing and retaining staff.
• Versatile, results-oriented, with a continuous improvement focus and ability to influence outcomes with senior leaders and other stakeholders throughout the organisation.
• Demonstrated creativity, innovation and ethical thinking in applying solutions for the benefit of the customer/stakeholder.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills, with ability to develop effective relationships and influence key stakeholders at all levels in the organisation.
• An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
• Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
