Why Your Role Matters:

The Manager, Library Quality and Planning plays a vital role within the University Library by supporting library leaders to achieve the Library’s goals in quality management, planning, and staff development.

This position contributes significantly to both strategic and operational initiatives across the Library, helping to foster an engaged, positive, and forward-looking environment that supports the full range of the Library’s services and activities.

Support engagement and change management activities, including the development of communication plans, consultation materials, and implementation resources.

Who You Are

You use design, data, and other insights to inform evidence-based practices and drive continuous improvement, and you contribute to business planning and service development aligned with the strategic goals of the University Library. You are an experienced professional with a strong background in identifying capability needs within the university or cultural environment. You are confident in working with staff at all levels using a range of frameworks and approaches for whole-of-library, team-based, and individual learning, and organising and facilitating planning and staff engagement activities.

You take the time to develop a nuanced understanding of library roles, responsibilities, and skill sets. You can identify opportunities for growth and work effectively with senior leaders across the Library to support staff capability, performance, and organisational development.

Do You Have the Following Attributes?

  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with leaders across an organisation in areas such as staff development, quality management, planning, and/or staff capability initiatives within a higher education context—or equivalent knowledge gained through education, training, and experience.

  • Advanced skills in service management and performance measurement within a library or higher education environment, including increased user engagement, insightful analysis, and impactful communication of results.

  • A strong understanding of the opportunities and challenges facing academic libraries in 2026 and beyond, and the ways in which quality and planning processes can help ensure that UNSW Library achieves its strategic objectives as part of Progress for All.

You Will Bring

  • Proven ability to work with leaders across an organisation to deliver staff development, quality management, and planning initiatives—ideally within higher education or an equivalent context.

  • Advanced skills in service management and performance metrics, including data analysis, visualisation, and dashboard creation, in a library, higher education or similar environment.

  • A clear understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing academic libraries in 2025 and beyond, and how quality and planning processes contribute to achieving the University Library’s goals.
