About the role

The Director of Yuwaya Ngarra-li is responsible for leading the whole-of-university partnership with the Dharriwaa Elders Group at UNSW, building and managing Yuwaya Ngarra-li (YN) as an innovative interdisciplinary community-led model for research, community engagement, learning and impact.

The Director of Yuwaya Ngarra-li is responsible for strategic development and oversight of innovative, high-quality research, evaluation, and cross-faculty staff and student projects associated with Yuwaya Ngarra-li, and building and communicating the evidence base of the CommUNIty-Led Development (CLD) model to community, government, industry, philanthropic and academic audiences.

About the successful applicant

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • PhD in a relevant area and extensive relevant experience at a senior level in a research-based or research-focused portfolio.
  • Demonstrated experience is building and leading cross-faculty research and collaboration with Aboriginal community-controlled partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide intellectual leadership to a multidisciplinary team of academics
  • Track record of excellence in research and publications in a relevant field and demonstrated ability to publish collaboratively.
  • Demonstrated experience in team leadership, with proven capacity for academic leadership and postgraduate student supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability in strategic planning and management of research, education and knowledge exchange programs
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing effective strategic and operational plans.
  • Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and services, including in undertaking research and evaluation.
  • High-level academic writing skills demonstrated in authorship of research reports and academic journal articles.
  • Demonstrated ability to present research findings as evidenced by presentations at conferences or other venues, including for community audiences.
  • Proven ability to interpret and advise on policy, rules and regulations; informed by the collection, evaluation and critical analysis of data.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to consult, influence, negotiate and effectively manage relationships and build collaborative initiatives.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training
